Why Bogaz ?

BOGAZ, NORTH CYPRUS

Bogaz is a truly beautiful coastal village located on the southern end of the Karpaz Peninsula on the East coast of North Cyprus.

An old fishing town, local fishermen carry their trade as they have for centuries past from the fishing harbour that is the focus point for this delightful village. Bogaz has an unmistakably unique atmosphere that has captured the heart of countless tourists, and many are now happily living here alongside the friendly locals having decided that this is the place to be.

It is no surprise to find the harbour ringed by many excellent restaurants and tavernas. The cost of living in Bogaz is outstandingly affordable, often much cheaper than you will anywhere else in Cyprus or within the Mediterranean.

Many people simply fall in love with Bogaz whilst visting North Cyprus. The village is blessed with many natural attractions but has managed to preserve its uniqueness and doesn’t suffocate its visitors with mass tourism. Local Cypriots mingle in harmony with tourists, enjoying a cool drink, observing the activity around the working harbour and enjoying life as it should be. Boat trips are available from here, either to try your luck at fishing for your dinner or simply to relax and sunbathe as you float upon the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean.

People are investing in this area as many consider Bogaz and the surrounding area to be the new ‘property hot spot’ of Northern Cyprus. The Big Old Bazaar, probably the most exciting commercial development that North Cyprus has ever seen, is currently under construction in this area and within easy reach of Bogaz. It will be a custom designed centre for business, trade and entertainment. In the first phase there will be over 200 business premises including entertainment platforms and stages to meet the demands of shoppers and tourists who will flock here from all over North Cyprus and beyond. It has been built in the style of the old walled city of Famagusta. The style also reflects traditional markets and the bazaars found in cities like Istanbul. A buzzing hive of activity with the sights, sounds and smells that invite one to further explore the shops, savour the exotic flavours of Turkish Cypriot cuisine or other dishes in the restaurants, and just enjoy the experience.

Further afield Famagusta is a short drive along the newly opened coastal road, and this scenic route to the west offers visitors to Bogaz a wealth of things to do and see. There are some excellent restaurants in this part of the city where you can savour the exotic aromas and tastes of Cypriot Turkish cooking or an excellent choice of more familiar European dishes. To the east of the quaint fishing village of Bogaz, which is a tourist attraction in its own right, lays the Karpaz region.

This region is sometimes called the “Panhandle”of Cyprus due to its geographical shape. It is a protected area of outstanding natural beauty with ancient villages that have hardly changed for generations. There is a vast array of wildlife and flora and fauna and the area is famed for having over 40 sandy beaches many of which are untouched by development. Some are home to two species of endangered sea turtles that use them for their nesting grounds.

Closer to Bogaz is the exciting new resort of Bafra where massive investment has seen the development of five star hotels and an excellent casino among its attractions.

The new Karpaz Gate marina offering over 300 berths and a host of facilities is also within easy reach of Bogaz and is expected to add further value to area. The growth brought about by increased tourism and employment will further add to the development and expansion of Bogaz.
